For so many years, the time leading to CNY has been relatively easy... I just had to make sure I got my new clothes, help mother with some of the task like chaffeuring her to places to get the CNY stuff, and packing Ang Pow (with chocolate coins) for her school kids...
Well, for this year... By the time the clock strikes midnight on 26 Jan 2009 (start of CNY), I was literally flopped in front of the TV with no strength to move at all - upper body muscles (or tissues whatever you want to call it) was screaming for some relief and the soles of my feet was throttling like crazy.
I had spent almost the entire 2 days - Sat and Sun, cleaning the entire windows in the house, which comes to 6 different sized panels of window, with various degree of dirt on it. After which, I had to iron all the new clothes to be worn for the next 2 days. Then, move boxes around to ensure the living room looks clean and uncluttered (yes, some of the boxes were moved to a room for the time being) as my relatives will be visiting. Mother wants the living room to be as nice and neat and without any boxes or articles around.
I am certain there were more tasks that were performed but my brains were too tired to think, and recall what they were. Heck, I am still not recovered from it as yet.
Thankfully, most of my CNY days are relatively quiet... No need of any more exertions, other than driving to my relatives place. Actually, I was left in peace to work on my new rig on the 2nd day. Usually, my relatives would come over to my place on the 2nd day, but this year, interestingly, we had a merry-go-round in our visitation. I went to my aunt's place first, then together we proceed to my uncle's place. After that, my aunt and family came over to my place. Not long after they left, my uncle's family came over to my place.
So, all visits were done within 1 day. Rest and relax for the 2nd day!
Next year, preparation for CNY will start 1 month ahead... No more 2 days scramble to get things done... It's too tiring!!!!

Blast from past
Did a walk in Pavilion on Monday night, after dinner. Yes, I am in KL this week, due to a demo. They have 2 video shops in there - Speedy Video and VideoEZY. Speedy Video was in the basement (or Lower Ground, not sure of the levels here), where (some of) the restuarants were, so naturally I stepped into there to have a look. I walk out of there with 1 DVD, 1 VCD and 1 CD.
DVD was the review of the Treble year 98/99 for Man United - finally found it! I had recently bought the review of Double year 07/08, and now this completes the set! :D
VCD was Happy Ghost II, which started the (very short) singing careers 4 (started with 3 then became 4) girls known as Happy Girls Group (literal translation from "Ka Xin Shao Nu Zu"). Anyone remembers them?!?!? You would if you have watch the Happy Ghost movie series from Happy Ghost II to Happy Ghost IV. I don't recall them being in Happy Ghost and Happy Ghost V - maybe that's why the movie stopped at V... :P They were also in the Isle of Fantasy movie as well - all the mentioned movies were produced by Raymond Wong, which I think most people will know who he is... For so many of his movies, it's all silly, and you can leave your brains at the door when you enter the theatre (those that I know of, that is), but yet sometimes, the movies does remains with you. For this case, it was more of the music that was associated with these movies. Although I have to say the Isle of Fantasy had a better "space" in my memory - maybe it's because it's so funny...
Oh, not sure what triggers the point, but I did actually started to search for any indication in the internet for their albums (which I already had in cassette format) and was hoping that it was released in CD format. To my pleasant surprise, I did managed to find some of the cds in yesasia.com! Ordered it, and now awaiting for the orders to be shipped. According to the last known status, they are sourcing for these CDs so that it could be shipped. Hopefully, the CDs are be found and I could get it after CNY!
CD? Well, it's the latest CD (SACD to be exact) from Emi Fujita, except that this cd contains all japanese songs which, frankly, I don't even understand a single word. Why I got it.. Not too sure but it joins the 2 other japanese CDs that I have in my CD collection - Songs from Macross and 10 Decades for Le Couple (which Emi is part of this duo). Then again, I think for someone that listens to one of the widest genre of music - from classical, vocals, jazz, pop, rock and even heavy metal, and yes, I do have some cantonese and mandrin CDs. I guess this is not something unusual.
Anyway, no, I have not finished working on the new rig I had, and I can't wait to get back home to continue getting that rig ready... Still wondering if the Palm hotsync program will work with Vista... Sigh, that is a "big" issue as I have a palm and I would like for it to be synced! Especially since I am using Document to Go for my list of CDs, DVDs and wines. Time to hit google search again...

Gone & Done It
I have finally caved in and gone out to shop - I now have a DFI X58 mobo, i7 processor, gfx card, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD and 800W PSU sitting in my room, awaiting me to setup. Started by reading the mobo manual, and then remembered that I forgot to get them to seat the processor into the mobo... So, I will have to DIY and follow the manual in the i7 processor box to seat it. Interestingly, there is no mention of thermal paste to be placed on the processor before placing the heatsink over it. That means there must be some thermal paste on the part of the heatsink, but I always wondered if those paste is good enough or should I get some paste which is supposedly better than the default one.
Till I get it up and running, I am still using the old one, and keep changing the BIOS to the correct setting everytime I start it. I had to transfer some files into the new HDD, so that I could use the old one as the new rig's OS - smaller size in HDD space. The old one is 160GB, so it's just nice to be used as OS drive as I will be using Vista in this new rig.
The only hitch I think I would have is - where to house the new rig. I had not purchased a new casing as I cannot seems to find a casing that I would want to get. I can't get the Full Tower ones as it's just too large (and I have an old one still around, had not thrown it out of the house yet). I have not found a Mid size one that fits my dimension requirements. I don't which for it to be small as the heat would be higher if there is not enough space for the heat to dissipate quickly; however, most Mid size ones are considered a little small to me. So, I am still searching.
Meantime, I just might have to rig it in the full tower casing for the time being, which could turn out to be 2 years before I remember to get a new casing. :D
Oh well, this should keep me occupied for a while, installation of the rig, then new OS installation, then installing the stuff to bring it back to usable stage :P I do hope the software will work in a 64bit Vista OS. Heck, I need to check all the software I had used to make sure it stills runs in 64bit.
